A new collection of Star Wars stories was announced recently, celebrating the holidays in the galaxy far, far away with Life Day!
Releasing on September 7, Life Day Treasury: Holiday Stories from a Galaxy Far, Far Away is written by Cavan Scott and George Mann, with art by Grant Griffin. According to the announcement on StarWars.com, this book will feature eight different stories centered around Life Day, and “the tales promise to span different eras while bringing themes of hope, family, kindness, and love.”
Included in those stories are one about Stellan Gios during the era of the High Republic, patrolling Coruscant during holiday celebrations, as well as one about Ewoks in the snow. I mean, who doesn’t want to read about that? That’s actually the very first place Scott began in his pitch for the book: “Ewoks in snow.” It’s not hard to see why that pitch was picked up.
But through the process, Scott teamed with George Mann, who has written Myths & Fables and Dark Legends, two collections of in-universe Star Wars stories. Given the nature of those projects, Mann seemed like an obvious co-writer on the project, and the illustrator of those books, Grant Griffin, joined this one as well. So although this doesn’t seem to be officially continuing that series of books Mann wrote previously, it nonetheless seems very similar in nature. Only this time, it’s all about Life Day!
Life Day is, of course, the most well-known holiday in the Star Wars universe, and it is essentially the Star Wars version of Christmas. It’s a Wookiee holiday and was a central plot point of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special, and more recently The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special.
