Something that I’ve recognized for a while, but haven’t really written a whole lot about (besides some passing references) is the fact that one of the most iconic, beloved, and significant characters in the entire Star Wars universe has been INSANELY overlooked by CG in Galaxy of Heroes – so much so that it’s beyond any reasonable explanation.
It’s Leia Organa.
She’s not relevant anywhere close to end-game right now, and hasn’t been for a while. But not only that, we haven’t gotten a new Leia in over three years. It’s insane.
Here’s a chart that includes every character with multiple iterations in-game (I have included here the upcoming Luke Skywalker and Emperor Palpatine Galactic Legends). The characters that are in bold are, in my estimation, have at least one version useful in a top-tier team end-game right now. Take a look:
# | Characters |
5 | Han Solo, Chewbacca |
4 | Luke Skywalker |
3 | Rey, Kylo Ren, Palpatine |
2 | Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Yoda, Revan, Bastila Shan, Finn, Poe Dameron, Lando Calrissian, Leia Organa, C-3PO |
So there are 17 different Star Wars characters with multiple versions in this game. And there are only two who aren’t extremely relevant right now in the game: Leia Organa and Lando Calrissian.
But also, take a look at the most recent release for each character. Like above, I’m including the upcoming release for Luke and Palpatine, since we know we’re getting new iterations already.
Character | Most Recent Release |
Luke Skywalker | Upcoming |
Palpatine | Upcoming |
Chewbacca | July 16, 2020 |
C-3PO | July 16, 2020 |
Kylo Ren | March 26, 2020 |
Rey | March 26, 2020 |
Poe Dameron | January 22, 2020 |
Finn | December 18, 2019 |
Anakin Skywalker | October 11, 2019 |
Revan | March 25, 2019 |
Bastila Shan | November 15, 2018 |
Lando Calrissian | July 7, 2018 |
Han Solo | May 7, 2018 |
Yoda | August 28, 2017 |
Leia Organa | August 28, 2017 |
Ahsoka Tano | June 2, 2017 |
Obi-Wan Kenobi | October 20, 2016 |
So as you can see, it’s been over three years since we’ve gotten a Leia Organa in-game, and that’s one of the longest droughts of any of these 17 characters. The only ones shorter are Ahsoka and Obi-Wan – but very importantly, both of them have received reworks recently (coming in 2019). Same with Yoda – although a different version than released on August 28, 2017, Yoda was reworked in the summer of 2018. In fact, the only ones of these 17 characters to NOT be reworked (and many saw multiple iterations get reworks) since Leia’s latest release are Luke, Rey, Revan, Poe, Leia, Lando, and C-3PO. But do you notice what’s interesting about those? All of them have had a newer version of the character released since Leia, AND all but Lando are still incredibly relevant end-game (in other words, they don’t need a rework as much).
So WITHOUT A DOUBT, if we’re looking at characters with multiple version in this game, Leia Organa and Lando Calrissian stand far and away as the most neglected and ignored. But even then, we had a Lando released nearly a year after the most recent Leia! Plus, I don’t think anyone would argue that Leia is a more iconic Star Wars character. In fact, right now, Leia is BY FAR the most iconic Star Wars character to not be relevant end-game, and she hasn’t been relevant in years.
That’s absolutely stunning, and I dare say it’s dereliction of duty for CG. I kinda doubt that they’ve ignored Leia just because she’s a woman, since they’ve released several Reys, but I mean… what reasoning could they possibly have otherwise?
And this is why it’s especially stunning to me: Leia was one of the key figures of the sequel trilogy. She was the General of the Resistance, and anybody who spends a few minutes looking into things knows just how central Leia was to the entire Resistance and the entire events of the sequel trilogy. She had a notable role in all three sequel films, and we have 16 characters in this game with a Resistance tag – and not a single Leia. I mean, seriously?
It is completely inexcusable that CG has not given Leia any more attention than they have, and it’s a glaring omission from a game that features tons of iconic and familiar Star Wars characters.
