Recently in Galaxy of Heroes, Darth Vader received a rework that immediately made him a very formidable character. It was probably the best update the game has had in a long time, as it took a character already in the game who should be very good but wasn’t, and actually made him very good!
So it got me thinking: what other characters could or should get the Vader treatment? There are a number of options, but I narrowed it down to five I’d really love to see.
5. Commander Cody
Kicking off this list is Commander Cody, and I actually expect this one to happen at some point. There was a big focus on the clone troopers last year, and that included a brand new 501st tag that, together with the release of General Skywalker, made them one of the best squads in the game. But Cody really didn’t get touched much, and I wonder if that’s something still to come. For example, General Kenobi’s leadership ability actually talks about him leading the 212th, and so I’d love to see Cody reworked to be a very viable character, but also a key part of a new 212th faction that can be very competitive. Think about how cool it would be to have General Skywalker synergize so well with the 501st faction and General Kenobi with the 212th!!
4. Ahsoka Tano (Fulcrum)
There are several reasons why I’ve included Ahsoka Tano (Fulcrum) on this list: (1) firstly, Ahsoka is an awesome character not just in The Clone Wars but in Rebels, and I’d love to see this game represent that; (2) secondly, she wouldn’t require a massive overwork to make her much more viable; (3) it could help out newer players while still providing a solid squad for end-game players. Basically, by all of this I mean that giving Ahsoka a minor rework and adding the Phoenix tag could go a long way. This would bolster the Phoenix squad, which is one of the most popular squads early in this game, which could give newer players a bit more flexibility and creativity and competitiveness. But it could also make the whole Phoenix squad better, making them more viable end-game in modes like Grand Arena and Territory Wars, for instance. This doesn’t have to be a top-tier character, but I’d love to see her reworked to make her better and more viable.
3. Mace Windu
Mace Windu is probably the most commonly requested rework in the community at this moment, and it’s not hard to see why: his character right now pretty much sucks. Now I’m not so much insistent that Mace Windu become the new meta (because, after all, he had a lot of failures in the prequels and wasn’t exactly the ideal Jedi), but he certainly should be a powerful part of a Jedi squad. And of all the disappointing Jedi currently in the game (among whom include Plo Koon and Kit Fisto), Mace makes the most sense for a rework. I think it would make sense too, considering the Jedi teams right now mainly depend on Old Republic (Revan, Jolee Bindo, Bastila Shan) and now Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker. With Yoda as the one big exception, Galactic Republic Jedi are used best and most often in other squads (like Galactic Republic, 501st, etc.). Reworking Windu could create the opportunity to have more of an era-specific Jedi squad that could compete in various game modes without being a new meta-defining team.
2. Princess Leia
If this were a list of new characters I want to see added to the game, Leia Organa would be at or near the very top of it too. For as rare as Luke Skywalker has been in this game, Leia Organa has been even rarer. We have just two versions of her character right now (compared to three for Luke, five for Han, and three for Chewbacca), so when you consider the original heroes, Leia is the most underrepresented (despite maybe being the most heroic of all of them) – and the only one of that group of four without a current use in-game. She was hugely significant in the sequel trilogy, yet nothing. But anyway, this isn’t a list abut new characters, so I’ll focus instead on the two versions of Leia we do have: Princess Leia and Rebel Officer Leia Organa. I don’t particularly care which one of these versions gets a rework, but I desperately want to see Leia Organa have a place of prominence in this game. She deserves it.
1. Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker
Jedi Knight Luke is the newest character in this game, so it probably feels a bit weird to include him at number one here – or even on this list at all! Granted, he is a very good character; he’s not quite Galactic Legend level, but that’s ok! Really the only reason he’s included here is because he needs Rebel synergy. It’s honestly insane that they released this character with zero synergy with the faction, and it’s the number one rework I want right now. Why? Because this is the Jedi Luke Skywalker we’ve been waiting for in this game for five years, so I don’t think it’s too much to ask that they do it right. Give him the Rebel tag and Rebel synergy.
