In the most recent episode of The Clone Wars, “The Phantom Apprentice”, we saw Ahsoka and Maul face off.
It was one of the most incredible duels the show has done, and one of the things that made it extra special was not just that it has been heavily-anticipated but that Ray Park actually brought Maul to life once more!
Park, who played Maul in The Phantom Menace and again in Solo, was brought in to do motion-capture for the fight, so that when you see Maul fighting on-screen in The Clone Wars in this episode, it’s actually Park!
On the other side, Lauren Mary Kim was brought in to do motion-capture for Ahsoka. This video, released by Star Wars on Tuesday, shows how this fight turned out, how Sam Witwer and Ashley Eckstein voice them, and how the team turned all of this into a stunning animated product. And, of course, there’s plenty of Dave Filoni too!

I love seeing behind-the-scenes stuff like this from Star Wars, and I think it’s incredible that Ray Park was able to play Maul one more time, fighting – even in animation! I thought it showed that Park was doing this, and it made the fight even better.
