Andrew Jack, who played Major Caluan Ematt in the sequel trilogy, has died

Some sad news came our way earlier this week, as we learned that Andrew Jack died at the age of 76 after a battle with COVID-19.

Jack was a highly successful dialect coach, perhaps most notable for his work on The Lord of the Rings trilogy, as he created the dialects of Middle Earth and helped bring them to life on-screen.

For Star Wars fans, however, he is probably best known as Major Caluan Ematt, who appeared in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Ematt was a veteran of the Galactic Civil War, where he fought for the Rebellion and was part of Han Solo’s strike team on the forest moon of Endor. He went on to work for the New Republic but was one of the first members to join Leia Organa’s Resistance.

In addition to his work portraying Ematt, Jack also provided the voice for Moloch in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

It’s very sad news to hear about his passing, and we certainly want to wish his family the best.
