Star Wars Resistance contained a cool nod to Knights of the Old Republic

In A New Hope, Princess Leia mentions the planet Dantooine, which used to house a Rebel base, but we have not seen the planet’s surface in any canon material – until now!

In the latest episode of Star Wars Resistance, “Rebuilding the Resistance”, we briefly see the surface of Dantooine as three shuttles full of Resistance recruits fly to join the others.

But as Jordan Maison noted familiar, the structure on the planet’s surface looks awfully familiar: it’s the same as the Jedi Enclave seen there in Knights of the Old Republic.

This is something that I think is really cool, because it’s just a small little thing that is pretty significant to Star Wars fans. They could easily have just shown another part of Dantooine’s surface and no one would have thought anything of it, but they decided to show the Jedi Enclave that was seen in Knights of the Old Republic. That game and its events aren’t canon, and this certainly isn’t Lucasfilm making any of it canon again. But they did show us the Enclave, which is such a brilliant thing to do; it’s a nod to those games and another sign that they’re not just trying to do away with all of the legends material but will incorporate it where it makes sense. Here, it definitely does.

I wonder if we’ll ever get to see Dantooine explored one day on-screen, maybe even in the next series of films, but this is the first time the surface has been seen in the new canon. It was almost seen in Rogue One, but now showed up in Resistance.

I think it’s such a great little touch, and a very small yet notable nod to the much-beloved game.
