Carrie Fisher receives top billing for The Rise of Skywalker!

The official theatrical poster for The Rise of Skywalker was released last week, and while it’s certainly not the main point, there’s something about the poster that caught the attention of many fans: Carrie Fisher gets top billing for the final installment of the Skywalker saga!

This is the first time that Carrie Fisher has received top billing on a Star Wars film, and it’s very fitting:

  • First of all, it’s fitting because Fisher sadly passed away before getting a chance to film this final chapter, so since she’s still appearing in the film it’s a nice way to honor her.
  • Secondly, the plan had been that Fisher’s General Leia Organa was going to be a huge focus in this ninth film, just like Harrison Ford’s Han Solo was in episode seven and Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker was in episode eight.
  • And thirdly, J.J. Abrams has called Leia the heart of this ninth chapter, so regardless of how much she is in the film she figures to have a significant (and emotional) role to play.

Fisher joins Mark Hamill (4x), Ewan McGregor (2x), Liam Neeson, Harrison Ford, Felicity Jones, and Alden Ehrenreich as the cast members to receive top billing on a Star Wars film.
