The trailer for the second season of Star Wars Resistance dropped today, and it’s pretty awesome. We’ll break it all down shortly, but the really surprising thing was that the trailer unveiled that this will be the final season. The season will premiere on October 6 at 10:00 p.m. ET on Disney Channel.

It’s very surprising and disappointing that this will be the final season for the show, making it a short two-season run for a series that exceeded all expectations and had a terrific first season. I have high hopes for season two, and while I’m disappointed this will be the final season, I am very glad that the decision was made now so that they can finish things the right way.
Ultimately, they probably just felt like a series exploring the post-TLJ world wasn’t going to be as pertinent with the conclusion of the sequel trilogy this December. But I also think this gives tons more credibility and intrigue to the reports from a while ago that Dave Filoni was working on a new animated show. If Resistance is already ending, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that it will be replaced by new animated project. Perhaps a sequel to Rebels? Perhaps about Luke and Ben? Whatever it is, if it’s a Dave Filoni project, I’ll be excited to see it. And the news of this being the final season for Resistance makes me curious if we could be seeing something about it before long.
