To promote his new film The Lion King, Jon Favreau recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and talked about The Lion King primarily, his cooking show, and also The Mandalorian.
He didn’t reveal a whole lot about The Mandalorian and didn’t really say anything about the upcoming season that we didn’t know, but he did disclose that he’s already at work on season two!
“And we’re done with the first season; I’m actually writing part of the second season now, so I’m having a blast.”
As far as I can remember, this is the first official confirmation that we’ve gotten that there even will be a season two, though it’s no surprise. There’s a lot of hype for the first season, which will release later this year when Disney+ launches, and Lucasfilm has invested a ton in this show. With Favreau and Dave Filoni leading the way, I have a ton of confidence that it’ll be really great.
So, months before it even releases, Favreau is already working on writing the second season. That’s pretty cool, and it’s a similar level of confidence that Lucasfilm expressed in Rian Johnson when they gave him his own trilogy even before The Last Jedi released. That was a terrific move, and so is this. I’m super excited about The Mandalorian, and it’s great knowing that a second season is already in the works.
