On Tuesday, Adam Driver was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in BlacKkKlansman.
The film’s director, Spike Lee, was also nominated, as he is up for the Oscars for Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Picture. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about the responses of the nominees, Lee said that he talked with Adam Driver on Tuesday morning and that: “He’s shooting Star Wars in London, where they stopped production and the first AD assembled the cast and crew to congratulate Adam,”
I know that’s a pretty minor detail, but it does confirm that Adam Driver is in London this week filming for Star Wars: Episode IX. Presumably, he’s been in and out of filming for months as he works around other projects. I’d guess that shooting for Episode IX will be drawing to an end sometime soon, and of course Driver will have the starring role alongside Daisy Ridley in this final chapter of the Skywalker saga. Given that Driver plays the ‘last’ of the Skywalker line, it’s likely that this movie will especially focus on Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. I’m sure there will be a ton of scenes so it’s not like him filming is any surprise, but this is at least somewhat of an update on filming: Adam Driver is in London, presumably at Pinewood Studios, filming Episode IX this week. And while doing that, the cast and crew took time to congratulate Driver on his nomination for an Oscar for one of his other films, too. That’s pretty cool!
