There are multiple projects ongoing for Lucasfilm animation currently, and with the recent announcement of the return of The Clone Wars the new show premiering this fall, Resistance, has been largely overshadowed.
We got some general plot details when the show was announced earlier this year, and then more recently at a French Disney convention we got a sneak peak of some of the main characters. But we haven’t gotten a trailer or much more information about the show, which is coming this fall to Disney Channel and Disney XD.
Florian on Twitter has discovered and translated a German press release about the show, explaining that the show will premiere on October 13 in Germany with a two-part episode called “The Recruit.” The first season of Resistance will feature 22 episodes, ten of which will air this year in Germany. This fits with what we had previously heard, that it will premiere in France in October, but we still haven’t heard anything about the U.S. release date. Nonetheless, the significant information here isn’t about the release date but about the first episode(s), “The Recruit.” Florian also shared the plot synopsis for the episode:
Resistance fighter Poe Dameron tasks young pilot Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono with spying on the First Order. At the time, little was known about the secretive organisation and its strength.
In order to fulfill his mission, Kaz travels to the space station Colossus, which is being used by many ships as a port to refuel and do repairs. However, there are also dangerous races taking place there. After Kaz bragged with his piloting skills at his arrival there, he is soon drawn into one of the races…
So it seems that this episode will give us a proper introduction to the series by showing Kazuda Xiono, the main character, working for the Resistance and being given a top secret assignment from Poe Dameron: to spy on the First Order. But he winds up getting involved in racing at a space station, which if I had to guess is probably in an effort to prove his piloting skills in order to earn favor with First Order sympathizers.
We know that the show will feature quite a bit of flying action and that it’s something Dave Filoni is really excited about, and from the sounds of the premiere we’ll be getting an important race right away.
I would imagine that we’ll be hearing much more about this show in the coming weeks – and probably seeing a preview or trailer for it too – as it will be here before we realize it. Assuming that it will premiere in the U.S. before Europe, as Rebels did and as the initial plot release seemed to indicate, we should be getting this show probably sometime in late September or early October. When we do, we’ll apparently be starting off with a two-part episode titled “The Recruit” that will introduce us to Kazuda and his mission.
