We’re only a couple of weeks away from the premiere of The Last Jedi, and the excitement I feel for the movie is impossible to quantify. I absolutely cannot wait for this film, and I think it’s going to be tremendous.
The footage we’ve seen of the movie so far hasn’t given away a ton in terms of spoilers, but it’s done a good job of generating excitement. It’s possible that none of the trailers, teasers, or TV spots that have been released so far do a better job of intriguing and leaving fans desperate to see more than a recent one that was released. We’ll break it down below, but you can watch it here:
As always, though this is officially released footage, some spoilers for the movie might be ahead, so don’t read any further if you don’t want to know anything about it.
Obviously the biggest aspect of the 30-second spot was the ending. The teaser plays with an ominous rendition of Rey’s theme in the background, and we soon hear Luke saying the line we’ve heard before: “Breathe. Now, reach out. What do you see?”
We then hear Rey’s answer, and we her her saying “Light. Darkness.” as other shots play. Then we see a shot of Rey meditating with her eyes closed and Luke behind her, with Rey saying, “And something else.”
Then after a shot of Snoke and a shot of Leia (both of which we’ve seen before), we hear Rey say frantically, “It’s calling me,” and we see the shot of Kylo extending his hand.
It cuts to a serious-looking Luke standing behind a meditating Rey saying, “Resist it, Rey!”
Then we see Luke screaming, “REY!” as the trailer cuts to the title card.
That’s a pretty amazing sequence, as it leaves plenty of intrigue: what is calling to Rey? Snoke? And does she actually resist it? I think it’s a tremendous teaser because, while it does give new footage, it doesn’t give too much away at all but rather leaves you really wanting to see what happens next. It’s ominous, it’s exciting, and it’s adding to the near unbearable anticipation for this movie.
The teaser also included a few other new images of Ahch-To and Poe Dameron:
That shot of Poe is very interesting too, as he’s in his X-Wing watching an explosion, and it doesn’t look like he’s too happy by it – meaning that it’s probably a Resistance ship exploding. We’ve seen in another trailer a big explosion above D’Qar, and this is probably the same explosion. It’s very possible that this is the ship that Paige is in.
