Star Tours gets The Last Jedi update with the Battle of Crait

One of the really significant new planets that will be introduced in The Last Jedi is Crait, the site of a major battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

In advance of the movie, fans who go on the Star Tours ride at Disneyland or Disney World will get to experience the battle early, as the popular attraction received an update to feature the Battle of Crait.  It’s a 3D ride that allows riders to be immersed in the setting as they ride on a ship with C-3PO and R2-D2, and part of the latest update to the ride features a scene on Crait.

Footage of the ride recently appeared on Youtube, and it shows R2 pilot the ship onto Crait, where the riders fly over the surface and over a mountain, met by a number of TIE Fighters.  The ship then turns to fly into the planet in the red salt mines that we’ve seen in trailers, and shortly thereafter the ship breaks through the surface (like the Falcon in trailers) and we see several Resistance ski-speeders racing to meet First Order walkers.  R2 weaves the ship through some of the walkers, then makes an aerial attack firing upon the walkers before leaving the system.  It’s a cool visual that introduces the Battle of Crait.

Keep in mind that it’s a 3D ride and therefore viewing of the above video (and the below screenshots) will be a bit blurry, but you nonetheless get a general idea:

There doesn’t appear to be any real spoilers from this, but there is something really significant: what’s that First Order transport taking part in the assault?  Here’s the transport in question:

We haven’t seen anything about this ship before, so it’s new.  Assuming that it’s actually in the movie (and you wouldn’t think it’s something they’d add just for the ride), then there’s another transport that advances with the AT-M6 and AT-AT walkers.  We don’t know anything about it, obviously, but I wonder if it’s some sort of mining vehicle or something that will help them infiltrate the Resistance base?

Regardless, the Battle of Crait will be really awesome to watch and will be a major part of The Last Jedi.  We’re under a month away!
