One of the most decorated directors in movie history will have a role in The Mandalorian and Grogu. The first full trailer for the upcoming movie showed Din Djarin approaching an Ardennian character looking for intel, and it has been confirmed by Star Wars that this character is voiced by none other than Martin Scorsese.
Djarin wants some information, and Scorsese’s character agrees to tell him anything he wants after he puts a New Republic credit on the counter. But as soon as Mando says he’s looking for a Hutt, the four-armed alien quickly leaps to shut the window, closing off any further conversation. It’s clear he doesn’t want to get involved with anything involving the Hutts.
It’s unclear whether this will be the only scene with this shopkeeper in the movie or not, but regardless, it’s fun to have such a notable celebrity cameo like this one for what I assume is a relatively minor role.
Scorsese is a widely renowned director, known for movies such as Goodfellas, The Departed, and The Wolf of Wall Street – the latter of which included The Mandalorian and Grogu director Jon Favreau in a cameo role. Now he returns the favor, with Scorsese in his film. It’s not the first time Favreau has pulled in celebrity cameos in The Mandalorian, as previously stars like Werner Herzog and Jack Black have appeared as well.
This isn’t the first time an established Hollywood director has voiced an Ardennian character in a Star Wars movie, either. This will be the second character of this alien species to appear on the big screen, following Rio Durant in Solo: A Star Wars Story – who was voiced by none other than Jon Favreau. It’s all connected, isn’t it?
