First full trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu released, promising an epic cinematic adventure starring Pedro Pascal and Grogu

At long last, the trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu has been released!

Though there have been growing concerns recently about the way Lucasfilm is marketing Star Wars’s return to the big screen, this trailer should go a long way toward alleviating concerns and building hype. It still doesn’t reveal much by way of plot details, but it provides the basic framework for the film (Mando is being hired by the New Republic to take out Imperial remnants) and shows plenty of exciting moments. It feels and looks cinematic, which is not an insignificant step for a TV show making the jump to theaters.

And, of course, there’s plenty of Grogu. But joining Grogu is an unmasked Din Djarin, and we see his face quite a bit in the trailer (especially considering how little we’ve seen his face in the three seasons of the show). But this, again, makes sense: Pedro Pascal is as big as any movie star in the world right now, and therefore it’s a pretty good idea to remind everyone that he’s in this – and that he’s actually in it, not just providing the voice.

The Hutt twins from The Book of Boba Fett are back, and they spell bad news for Mando – who is searching for a different Hutt, Rotta (Jabba’s son). He finds and fights Rotta in a gladiatorial arena. There’s the live-action debut for Embo, the Kyuzo bounty hunter who first appeared in the animated series The Clone Wars. And then there was the reveal of a new Ardennian character who is, apparently, voiced by Martin Scorsese! So that’s a fun cameo.

In all, this trailer is a significant step forward in building hype for this movie, which releases on May 22. Directed by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian and Grogu stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, Sigourney Weaver as New Republic Colonel Ward, and Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt. The film is produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce, with Ludwig Göransson providing the musical score.
