The biggest Star Wars announcement at the 2025 Game Awards was Fate of the Old Republic, but that wasn’t the only game announced that will take players to the galaxy far, far away. Also announced was Star Wars: Galactic Racer, which is set to release sometime in 2026.
Developed by Fuse Games, in partnership with Lucasfilm Games, the game will allow players to race in thrilling tracks on some iconic locations, like Jakku. The game has a multi-player capabilities, but it also has a campaign that follows Shade – a new character described as “a lone racer with a dream of glory and revenge”, according to the StarWars.com announcement. Along the journey, as you attempt to win these races, you’ll be able to fully customize your speeder according to your liking as you upgrade it. The goal is to survive as long as you can, while fighting to the top.
And, for good measure, the stinger at the end of the trailer features an elderly Sebulba, who famously raced against Anakin Skywalker in the pod-races on Tatooine. This game is set after the fall of the Empire, so plenty of time has transpired – and it will be interesting to see what Sebulba is up to now.
Overall, the game seems pretty fun, and I’m excited to play it. I’m hoping that it has a longer life than something like Squadrons, which was also a fun game but just didn’t seem to have the legs to keep the momentum going. I’m hoping that Galactic Racer has enough to do, and enough going for it, to take advantage of the moment and become a fan favorite.
