Jeremy Allen White confirms that he is voicing Rotta the Hutt in The Mandalorian and Grogu

While doing press tours for his upcoming Bruce Springstein biopic, Jeremy Allen White confirmed his role in another upcoming movie: he is, in fact, voicing Rotta the Hutt in The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Appearing on the Graham Norton Show, when an image of Jabba the Hutt was shown, White exclaimed “that’s dad!” Confirming what has been long reported, that White is voicing none other than Jabba’s son in the movie. In the trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu we see a glimpse of a very buff Hutt in a gladiatorial arena, and we now have confirmation that it’s Rotta.

Rotta the Hutt was first introduced to Star Wars fans in 2008 in the animated The Clone Wars movie, as a young Huttlet kidnapped by Separatist forces. In the movie, which served as a launching pad for the animated series, Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker must hunt down Rotta and return him safely to Jabba, hoping to earn the Hutt’s favor in the war. Nothing is known about Rotta’s story after that fact, but we know that Jabba was killed in the rescue of Han Solo around five years (or so) before the events of The Mandalorian and Grogu. By the time of the film, it looks like Rotta is a gladiator in an arena, looking far more buff and formidable than the Hutts we’ve seen on-screen before (who have a reputation for being sluggish).

So in the movie, the adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu will bring them into meeting Rotta, but it’s unclear just how that will be or what it will mean. But this is the kind of connection that Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau love to make to the rest of the franchise, for better or for worse, with all sorts of references and nods to all sorts of other stories. When this one was first reported it seemed almost too crazy to be true, but it’s actually happening: Jeremy Allen White is voicing Rotta the Hutt. It’s safe to say it will be very interesting to see what happens.

Directed by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22, 2026.
