First trailer and poster released for The Mandalorian and Grogu!

Nearly six years after the last Star Wars theatrical trailer, we finally have a new one, as the first public trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu was released today!

The movie, which will hit theaters on May 22, 2026, brings some of the franchise’s most popular characters to the big screen for the first time, with Din Djarin and Grogu continuing their adventures from the Disney+ shows. The trailer is extremely light on any plot details (a curious decision I’ll write more about later), but it does show a lot of Djarin and Grogu together and in action (as well as a great shot of Garazeb Orellios in action, too). It also showed off a very buff Hutt (that’s Rotta the Hutt, Jabba’s son), the return of the Razor Crest (not the same one, but a similar model), and plenty of creatures and aliens.

While the trailer didn’t give us much about the plot, the Star Wars website gave a general synopsis:

The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu (as himself).

In this, my guess is that Djarin and Grogu might have to hunt down one (or more) of the Imperial warlords that make up the Shadow Council seen in The Mandalorian season three. They’re helping the New Republic try to fend off these rising Imperial remnants, but they won’t yet be dealing with the true threat behind them all, which is the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn.

In addition to the trailer, a new poster was released for the movie, and it really leans into the old pulp films, or Western films, by its design and aesthetic. Included among that is the fact that, like the synopsis above, the movie is said to star Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin and Grogu as himself.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is directed by Jon Favreau, the creator of The Mandalorian and its related shows. Favreau wrote the film alongside frequent collaborator Dave Filoni, and Favreau and Filoni are both producing the movie alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Ian Bryce. Additionally, StarWars.com confirmed that Ludwig Göransson is composing the music, marking a return to The Mandalorian after he scored the first two seasons of the show. The movie hits theaters on May 22, 2026, meaning we’re just getting started with promotional material.
