What you need to know before watching Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past

The second season of Rebuild the Galaxy is coming this week, with Pieces of the Past picking up where season one left off a year ago.

With it being so long ago, however, it’s understandable to have forgotten where the previous installment left off. So if that’s you, you’ve come to the right place: here is the refresher you need before watching Pieces of the Past.

In the first season, Sig Greebling stumbles upon the Cornerstone, a powerful artifact that is, essentially, the brick that holds the entire Star Wars galaxy together. When that is affected, the galaxy as we know it is thrown into complete chaos, creating a sort of alternate reality (think of it as a Star Wars “what if?” show). This means all sorts of heroes are now villains, villains are now heroes, and everything in-between.

Sig is trained by Jedi Bob in the ways of being a Force builder, but Sig’s brother, Dev, becomes the villain they’re opposing: Darth Devastator. He wants to rule the galaxy with his brother by using the Cornerstone (in classic villain fashion), but in the end Dev is defeated and the Cornerstone is put back in place in a Jedi Temple. But rather than restoring the old galaxy as it was, this ‘locks in’ the new galaxy as the new way of being, with Sig realizing this is the right way.

So at the end of the first season, after the Cornerstone is restored, Sig heads off to Alistan Nor with Jedi Bob, his friend Yesi, and his gonk droid Servo. Unbeknownst to him, Dev is still alive, having escaped death despite his defeat. The other Sith had previously turned on Darth Devastator, and while they hold a grudge against him, their main target is Sig. So Darth Rose and Darth Rey pay a visit to a mysterious bounty hunter, lauding his reputation and hiring him to hunt down Sig. The bounty hunter turns out to be the Landolorian and Grogu – that is, Lando Calrissian dressed as the Mandalorian.

That is where the first season ends, and this second season will pick up the pieces (no pun intended) from that. But the season will also see a brand new villain introduced in Solitus, a fallen Jedi who was formerly Jedi Bob’s master. Gaten Matarazzo, who voices Sig in the series, spoke to StarWars.com about Solitus’s motivations:

“It really is just a pure evil force whose main desire is control and order and completely sterilizing the fun that can be brought to the Star Wars universe and also the world of LEGO Star Wars…There’s so much creativity involved with the world that can be built and the sets, so not only does it go to the extent of wanting LEGO sets to be built in a very specific way, but also just having them boxed up entirely.”

Tony Revolori, who voices Dev, added that, “Darth Dev would describe Solitus as the Master he’s always been looking for. A true Sith Lord! Someone who can finally teach him his place in the universe.” But from the sound of it, Solitus poses such a threat that Sig and Dev must join forces – perhaps reluctantly? – to fend off this galactic challenge.

All told, there figures to be lots of fun easter eggs and nods in Rebuild the Galaxy, which will air on Disney+ September 19 with all four episodes dropping at once. The series is directed by Chris Buckley, with Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit serving as writers and executive producers.
