Information on The Mandalorian and Grogu movie is notoriously hard to come by, and there wasn’t much revealed about the project at Star Wars Celebration Japan either.
We didn’t really emerge from the panel with much more information than we had going into it, but there was one interesting tidbit that seems worth mentioning. We’ve known that Sigourney Weaver is among the cast, and the first images of her in-costume were shown in behind-the-scenes pictures from the set. In the images, she wears the iconic orange jump suits that we’ve seen X-Wing pilots wear since the very first Star Wars film.
We previously knew that she plays someone in a position of authority who sends Din Djarin and Grogu out on a mission, and that was reflected in the trailer screened exclusively for those in-person at the panel. But the fact that she wears the jump suit also teaches us that she is a New Republic pilot.
It certainly sounds like Weaver might be playing the Greef Karga role in the movie, as in the show he’s the one who sent Mando out on various missions. That was as a bounty hunter, but now Djarin is working for the New Republic, so it will be Weaver’s character commissioning him instead.
The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22, 2026, and is directed by Jon Favreau.
