One of the very first things we learned about Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens was that he is the “master of the Knights of Ren”, but that title will apparently be challenged in an upcoming story.
In Charles Soule’s Legacy of Vader comic series, set in-between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, Kylo will have to face off against the new leader of the Knights of Ren. Tava Ren, a brand new character, was revealed at the publishing panel at Star Wars Celebration Japan. She is the leader of the Knights of Ren at this point, but she is also an Order 66 survivor. This likely ties in with what Soule said earlier this year about Ren hunting an Order 66 survivor, and this is certainly a very interesting way to do it.
It’s also interesting that she shares the name “Ren”, which we’ve known to be true of Ren and Kylo Ren, both of whom led the Knights at different points. I wonder if that means that the title Ren is more about the leadership and respect of this group of warriors. This also could all help to explain where the Knights of Ren were during the sequel trilogy, since they don’t show up until The Rise of Skywalker (besides that brief flashback). If the Knights’ allegiance actually wavered from Kylo, and they followed Tava, it would explain why they’re absent at this time – and, with Kylo now the Supreme Leader of the First Order, he can work to reclaim leadership of the group.
This is a lot of speculation, but I think it’s exciting to get another Knight of Ren, and Tava Ren sounds both mysterious and fascinating.
Along with all of this, there was another new Knight of Ren revealed at Celebration too, with another one showing up in the Path of the Lightsaber manga that will also be set in-between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. We don’t really know anything about this new Knight, but they were described as being an apprentice. The Knights of Ren make for good villains in comic settings like this, though, so it makes sense.
