A new update to the Smuggler’s Run ride at Galaxy’s Edge will tie-in to The Mandalorian & Grogu

The Mandalorian & Grogu will hit theaters on May 22, 2026, and on the same day another brand new adventure with the heroes will launch at Galaxy’s Edge at both Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland.

The Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run ride will be revamped and will include a new story that follows Mando and Grogu, with concept images released showing visits to Cloud City, Tatooine (with a Sandcrawler present), and the remnants of the Second Death Star floating in space. The Millennium Falcon is present, obviously, but so too is the Razor Crest, a class of ship that Mando previously flew and, it seems, he will again (based on some of the convention-limited footage that’s been aired of the upcoming film).

While Disney used some of the same material from the film, Jon Favreau, the creator of The Mandalorian and director of The Mandalorian & Grogu, shared that this ride won’t be re-telling events from the film but will be like participating in something that’s off-camera from what we see on the screen.

It’s not entirely clear how this story will tie-in to the movie, and whether or not the film will take us to any of these iconic locations. Disney has prided itself on having the rides have an in-universe story at Galaxy’s Edge, so I’m really curious to know the story behind how Mando winds up working alongside the Millennium Falcon – that could be especially interesting. In some ways, this sounds a bit like an attempt to combine the Smuggler’s Run experience (where riders get to run a job on the Falcon) with Star Tours (where riders are taken to various places in the universe). If that’s the case, and if it’s done well, that could make Smuggler’s Run even better.

It’s the first major upgrade to the ride since it was released, and it marks the latest example of Disney moving away from its well-intentioned but functionally-limited timeline constraints they launched Galaxy’s Edge with, where everything was set in the same time-period in-universe in-between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. I’m excited to see what this new experience is like.
