At long last, the first public trailer for the second and final season of Andor has been released!
The trailer showcases plenty of what to expect from the season without spoiling much of anything, giving us looks at returning stars like Cassian Andor, Mon Mothma, and Luthen Rael, as well as highlighting the show’s increasing connections to Rogue One with more of Saw Gerrera and the return of Director Orson Krennic and K-2SO. The visuals and action of this season look simply stunning. Andor looks great.
The music for the trailer was a curious choice, using an actual song played behind the footage, especially given the fact that it doesn’t seem to tonally fit the vibe of the series (though the lyrics do). But it’s something they tried with Skeleton Crew, and it’s probably simply aimed at trying to draw in new audiences. Those who watched the first season already know the vibe of the show and (probably) plan to watch season two, so this trailer seems more aimed at drawing others in, which I’m totally good with.
That’s especially clear in that the trailer highlights just how well-received and critically acclaimed Andor was when it released. There’s little doubt that this is one of the most well-received Star Wars projects in a long time, and one of the most critically acclaimed Star Wars projects ever. It makes a lot of sense for Lucasfilm to be playing that up.
Fans had been waiting not-too-anxiously for a trailer in recent days, especially as it pushed closer and closer to a release date and the marketing hadn’t yet ramped up. It’s still starting up its marketing push later than other Disney+ Star Wars shows have, but I’m expecting things to really pick up from here.
Andor will drop on Disney+ on April 22, with the first three episodes premiering on that date. It will air a three-episode arc each of the following three weeks, making it a four-month run for the twelve-episode series. Each arc will take place roughly a year apart, leading right up to Rogue One. The series comes from showrunner Tony Gilroy, who also serves as executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna, Luke Hull, and John Gilroy. Luna also stars as Cassian Andor, and he’s joined by a stellar cast that includes Stellan Skarsgård, Genevieve O’Reilly, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Faye Marsay, Varada Sethu, Elizabeth Dulau, and Alan Tudyk, with Ben Mendelsohn and Forest Whitaker.
