When Disney first opened Galaxy’s Edge at their theme parks, it was designed to be a fully immersive experience in the Star Wars universe, thrusting park-goers right into an adventure in the galaxy far, far away.
It’s an amazing experience, but it also meant that the park was going to be set in a specific era, during the sequel trilogy, with characters like Rey and Kylo Ren roaming the park. What was missed with the desire to keep it a ‘canon-accurate’ story was the potential to pull iconic characters from throughout the franchise and have them at Galaxy’s Edge, much like Disney World includes characters from all across its many generations of films at their parks.
Things began to change when the Mandalorian (and Grogu, of course) came to the park, and later with Ahsoka Tano, but now it seems the biggest addition yet is happening: Luke Skywalker is on his way.
Disney Parks shared a brief video on Instagram of Luke Skywalker, in his black Jedi robes, standing in front of the Millennium Falcon at Galaxy’s Edge, accompanied by R2-D2. They said that more information will be coming on February 10, but it’s clear enough from the reel that Luke will be coming to the park, dressed in his Return of the Jedi outfit.
This is an exciting development and is, quite frankly, a no-brainer. It’s a bit surprising it’s taken them this long to add Luke to the park, but this brings not only one of the biggest stars in the entire franchise to Galaxy’s Edge but also opens the door to plenty of other iconic characters to be added as well.
