Sigourney Weaver teases the first public information about her role in The Mandalorian & Grogu

The next Star Wars film to hit theaters will be The Mandalorian & Grogu, which recently wrapped filming. Directed by Jon Favreau, the movie continues the story of the Mandalorian (Din Djarin) and his trusty child-like apprentice, Grogu.

Plot details remain under tight wraps, and a cast list has yet to even be publicly revealed. But we know that one of the newcomers for the movie will be Sigourney Weaver. It’s been reported that she will be playing a New Republic colonel named Bishop, and Weaver recently spoke to Games Radar about the role.

“I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority,” Weaver teased. “And I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission on the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens.”

That seems to back up those rumors about her playing a New Republic officer, since when we last saw Mando he had accepted an offer from Carson Teva to complete missions for the New Republic. The first trailer for the movie, which has never been publicly released but has been shown at conventions, includes Mando working with the New Republic’s Garazeb Orrelios, showing that he’s continuing some sort of work for them. So it seems that Weaver will be an authority figure who serves as the ‘mission-giver’ for Mando’s various jobs, probably in a similar way as Greef Karga did when Mando was working as a bounty hunter in season one. With the death of Carl Weathers, it’s possible that Weaver will step into that role of facilitating, just for the New Republic rather than for bounties.

Furthermore, though it’s very little to go by, Weaver gives us our first plot details by saying that Mando’s mission takes him to the Outer Rim, where he gets into trouble. We know that Rotta the Hutt (Jabba’s son) will be in the movie, played by Jeremy Allen White, and rumors suggest another bounty hunter, Embo, could feature as well. All of that would line up with a mission in the Outer Rim.

I’m sure we’ll learn much more at Star Wars Celebration in April.
