Rory McCann will take over the role of Baylan Skoll in Ahsoka season two

Ahsoka season two has apparently cast one of its most important roles, as Rory McCann will be stepping into the role of Baylan Skoll, as first reported by Jeff Sneider of The Insneider and corroborated by The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit.

In season one, Ray Stevenson brought the character to life with an exceptional and very widely praised performance. Tragically, months before the series premiered on Disney+, Stevenson died after an illness. Because Baylan was such a key part of season one, which ended with a the foreshadowing of future adventures for the character, showrunner Dave Filoni was left with no other good choice besides re-casting. That’s where McCann enters, a Scottish actor best-known for his role as the Hound on HBO’s Game of Thrones series.

In Ahsoka, Baylan Skoll is a former Jedi turned mercenary who, alongside his apprentice, Shin Hati, partners with Morgan Elsbeth to find Grand Admiral Thrawn in another galaxy. But Baylan is led by his own purposes, sensing something calling to him on the far-away world of Peridia, and the first season ended with Baylan having left his apprentice to go off in search of this mysterious calling, which seems to have something to do with the Mortis gods, based on the statues and symbols seen.

The second season of the series is reportedly going to begin filming this spring – a staggering year and a half since the previous season was released. Dave Filoni will once again serve as showrunner, executive producing and writing the scripts, and the series will star Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano and Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, among other returning cast.
