The Star Wars comics are currently beginning to explore the post-Return of the Jedi era with the Battle of Jakku storyline. The first part, a four-issue mini-series titled Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising, features a fun connection to one of the saga’s animated shows, Resistance.
The second issue of the mini-series includes a small strike team being assembled to infiltrate Governor Ubrik Adelhard’s Star Destroyer, trying to break the Imperial’s iron grip of the Anoat Sector. The team is assembled by Rebel High Command, including Leia Organa, and it includes Kes Dameron (the father of Poe), Rynn Zenat, Therisa Alern, and Jarek Yeager.

Fans of Resistance will be quite familiar with the last name, as Yeager is one of the main characters of the show. That series is set three decades after the events of this comic, and by that time Yeager runs a ship repair shop on the Colossus, a station on the remote oceanic world of Castilon. Yeager was a commander in the Rebel Alliance and a hotshot pilot. He fought in the Battle of Jakku and then retired from fighting, instead taking up racing. Tragically, however, his wife and daughter were killed in a racing accident as they were spectators, so Yeager retreated even further from the galactic scene in his grief.
But when the First Order began to rise, Poe Dameron enlisted Yeager’s help. Yeager let a young Resistance pilot, Kazuda Xiono, work in his shop as an undercover spy on the First Order. But though he initially didn’t want to have any part in this new fight, Yeager wound up embracing his destiny and flying in combat once more against the enemy. A year later, when Lando Calrissian pleaded with the galaxy to help the Resistance cause at the Battle of Exegol, Yeager and Xiono responded, joining the galaxy fleet to assault the ancient Sith world and the fleet of the Final Order.
Yeager was one of the real highlights of Resistance, so it’s really cool to see him show up in this comic. He doesn’t have a major role to play in these issues, but the fact that he’s included is a really nice touch.
