Ever since our first look at Skeleton Crew, fans have been commenting on the suburb-like planet that the kids call home. It feels a lot like what we’d find on Earth, or in an Amblin film, presenting a different side of Star Wars than we’ve seen before. But as we could have guessed, it turns out the planet won’t be as boring as it looks.
Speaking with ScreenRant in a new interview promoting the series, showrunner Jon Watts said, “There’s definitely more to the planet than meets the eye, but we don’t want to say too much.”
The planet, according to the article, is called At Attin, and it was described by the showrunners as being “the crown jewel of the Old Republic”. That’s an extremely interesting tidbit, for many reasons. A previous interview with the showrunners revealed that many people in the galaxy haven’t even heard of the planet, which is why the kids have such trouble finding their way back home. Why would the Republic not know the planet that used to be the crown jewel, centuries earlier? Could there be a less-than-noble reason why it’s dropped off the galactic radar? It does seem to confirm that the planet is in the known galaxy, however, as some fans had speculated that the reason no one knew it was because it belonged to a different galaxy. That doesn’t seem to be the case.
But what is especially notable about this is that it will seemingly connect way back to the Old Republic era, which could explain why the kids stumble upon an ancient ship, possess Republic credits, and stumble upon an (apparently) ancient treasure. But what else is at play on the planet? The trailers have hinted that there’s more than meets the eye, and the showrunners have confirmed it. I’m extremely curious to learn more, especially after these comments from the show’s producers.
We’ll begin to learn more when Skeleton Crew airs a two-episode premiere on December 3, exclusively on Disney+.
