The Teek will make a return in Skeleton Crew, nearly forty years after Ewoks: The Battle for Endor

An obscure Star Wars species will be returning to the screen in Skeleton Crew, according to one of the show’s directors in a recent interview with Empire Magazine.

David Lowery, who directed one of the episodes of the upcoming series, shared that the Teek is in his episode, accomplished entirely as a puppit while surrounded by the Volume. The Teek species (and the character of the species known as Teek) were on Endor in the 1985 live-action film Ewoks: The Battle for Endor. Though that movie is considered non-canonical, the Teek have been mentioned in canon a few times. Though not native to Endor originally, they are residents of the forest moon and therefore come into contact with the Ewoks.

In The Battle for Endor, the species is shown as having super-quick speed, so much so that often they’re shown as nothing more than a blur as they race right by others. It will be interesting to see how much of their story and nature is the same in Skeleton Crew, but it’s cool that they’ll be included.

This is part of a larger theme that recent Star Wars projects have all done, particularly in these shows from The Mandalorian team: drawing from obscure Star Wars references to add to their story now. These inclusions make sense, because the series doesn’t depend on viewers knowing who they are (and therefore viewers who haven’t seen The Battle for Endor – which will be most viewers – won’t be confused). But for those who do know, it makes it a bit more rewarding.
