Star Wars is returning to the big screen, as the fifth episode of Ahsoka will be shown in a handful of theaters on Tuesday, September 12. It’s not a very wide release, but there will be ten cities in America, and three internationally, that will be airing the episode for fans.
Additionally, a midseason poster was released for the series, featuring plenty of the main cast – and one Anakin Skywalker prominently featured in the background, too.
The decision to bring the fifth episode to theaters is certainly interesting, especially given the way the fourth episode ended and set up what it to come. It will feature the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, talking with his live-action apprentice Ahsoka Tano, and given the nature of the World Between Worlds it’s also sure to be one of the wildest hours of Star Wars we’ve seen in a long time. The episode is directed by showrunner Dave Filoni, and I think this decision just highlights how executives expect it to be a big deal.
But it should also be noted that the decision to do this at mid-season, just like they did for the premiere, is a way to generate additional hype at a time where the writers and actors are on strike. That means that the studio is quite limited in what they can to to produce more and more discussion about the series, so doing this is an easy way to get more people talking about it and fans excited about it.
Regardless, I think we’re going to be in for a real treat when the fifth episode of Ahsoka premieres on Tuesday night.
