In news that is a surprise, but not an unwelcome one, Ahsoka will be premiering earlier than expected.
It was announced today that new episodes of the series will release at 6:00p.m. Pacific time on Tuesdays, which will begin with the two-episode premiere on August 22. That’s earlier than the original release date of August 23, as prior Disney+ shows have released at midnight Pacific time.
That was always an odd time to release content, as it placed the premiere sometime in the middle of the night for a large group of viewers. So this decision will allow fans to watch it on Tuesday evenings; the 6:00 time Pacific translates to 9:00 p.m. Eastern, which is very reasonable. It’s a great move, and one I’m very excited about.
So far this change is just for Ahsoka, which will run for seven weeks, but I have to imagine this is a way to test it for future shows. When Disney+ moved the premiere date of their shows from Fridays to Wednesdays, it began much like this, with a Marvel series being announced to drop on Wednesdays before the decision was made that all shows would. I expect this will follow much the same pattern, and that we’ll be seeing future shows drop Tuesday evenings too. Or, at least, I hope so, because this is a game changer for fans’ viewing experience.
