A really cool “Masters and Apprentices” teaser was just released for Ahsoka

So much of the Star Wars franchise revolves around the relationships between masters and their apprentices, and that’s the focus of an awesome new promo video for Ahsoka.

A minute-long video was released highlighting these relationships: Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi; Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker; Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano; Luke Skywalker and Grogu and Rey; Leia Organa and Rey – and, it seems, Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren. It’s a really well put together video that can serve not just as a promo for Ahsoka, but also for the Star Wars saga.

It makes sense that Lucasfilm would release a trailer like this because it’s a way to remind audiences that Ahsoka’s story is incredibly tied up in the rest of the saga, as the apprentice to Anakin Skywalker. That will seemingly come into play in some very significant ways in the upcoming series. But this teaser also ends with Yoda’s words to Luke in The Last Jedi: “We are what they grow beyond. That is the true burden of all masters.” It’s such a poignant and powerful statement in its own right, but it’s interesting to think about it in connection to Anakin and Ahsoka too. Anakin fell to the dark side and failed in many ways. But his apprentice remained loyal to the light, a beacon of hope despite the ways she had been personally failed by the Jedi Order like her master had. Ahsoka grew beyond, and that’s significant.

But one other aspect of this teaser really stood out: it seems that the promotion for this series is really playing up the master/apprentice relationship between Ahsoka and Sabine. It’s nearly impossible to watch this teaser and come to any other conclusion but that their relationship will be somewhat similar to these other master and apprentice relationships. Just what that means exactly still remains to be seen (particularly as it pertains to the ability to use the Force), but it certainly seems like Ahsoka has taught Sabine some things along the way and will continue to.
