Donald Glover and his brother Stephen will write the Lando series!

We finally have some news about the long-planned Lando series, as it has been reported that Donald Glover will write the series with his brother, Stephen.

Justin Simien had previously been attached to write the project, and he seemed to claim on social media that he found out about this change when the news broke on social media this week. That’s a shame if that’s really how he found out, but the new direction for the series is nonetheless still optimistic. The Glover brothers have previously worked together on other projects, most notably Atlanta, the acclaimed series in which Donald Glover was a creator, star, director, executive producer, and writer. Stephen also worked on the series, as a story editor and a writer.

Donald Glover has become a significant star in the film and music industries, and his connection with Lando is obvious, as he played Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. His performance as the legendary scoundrel was widely praised, and Lucasfilm began exploring ways to keep Lando’s story going. Kathy Kennedy announced the Lando series at the Disney Investor Day presentation in December 2020, but since then we’ve had very little information about it. Most of the information we’ve had about it has simply been from Kennedy or Glover being asked about it and confirming that, yes, they still were hoping and planning to do it when they could line schedules up. Glover is busy, and Lucasfilm has plenty of projects keeping them busy too.

So there’s still no release timeline for this series, especially with the current strike. It’s unknown whether the Glovers were already writing the series before the strike happened, but regardless, they won’t be working on it for the foreseeable future until these things get cleared up. So we’re a long ways away from this show actually hitting Disney+, but it’s exciting to hear an update about it and I’m excited to see Donald and Stephen Glover attached to it.
