Star Wars Outlaws will allow players to interact with Jabba the Hutt – for better or for worse

There is no more familiar planet in Star Wars than Tatooine, having shown up in a ton of stories since it’s introduction in A New Hope. And it will once be showing up once more in Star Wars Outlaws, the upcoming open world game developed by Massive Entertainment.

But this is a situation where Tatooine’s inclusion feels perfectly natural and makes complete sense. This game is all about the criminal syndicates in the galaxy, and in this period (set in-between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi), Jabba the Hutt is the most influential of all of the crime bosses. Having control of the Hutt Council and operating from his palace on Tatooine, Jabba is a major player in the crime scene – and that makes Tatooine a major criminal locale.

So it’s no surprise, then, that both Tatooine and Jabba the Hutt will be showing up in Outlaws. The game was recently promoted with a panel at San Diego Comic Con, and in discussing the panel IGN noted that the player will have the chance to work for Jabba – but also will have the chance to betray him as well.

While playing as Kay Vess, players will have the chance to explore the galaxy and interact with the various crime syndicates. That will involve taking jobs and working for different parties, and the player will also have choices to make that affect Kay’s status and reputation with the factions. So, for example, one decision might draw favor from the Hutts, while another decision might cause Jabba to put a bounty on your head. Those choices will be up to the player as they navigate the galaxy.

Everything we’ve been hearing about the game so far sounds great, and it will be cool to be able to explore Tatooine and Jabba’s Palace a bit more in this game. And we saw in the trailer a glimpse of Jabba bringing his carbonite-frozen prize back to his palace, so we’ll probably get to see some Han Solo easter eggs too.
