Lucasfilm is incredibly well-represented in the official list of Emmy nominations this year, as the studio received a very impressive 23 nominations across four shows.
Included among those nominations were Andor being nominated in Outstanding Drama Series and Obi-Wan Kenobi being nominated in Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, two of the most prestigious and notable categories. Andor received eight nominations in total while Obi-Wan Kenobi received five, and The Mandalorian also added nine nominations to lead all Disney+ shows. To round out the group, the docu-series Light & Magic also got one nomination.
Though it remains to be seen how many of these Lucasfilm will win, the studio’s extensive nominations is an accomplishment in itself. That’s especially true when considering that Disney+ received 40 nominations overall – meaning over half of them came from Lucasfilm alone. There has been little doubt ever since the platform launched that Lucasfilm’s Star Wars shows were among the most influential pillars of the streaming service, and that continues to be the case.
While it’s impressive to see this list of nominations, especially for Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi being recognized among the best shows in their respective categories, it is a bit surprising to see that not a single actor was nominated for a role from Star Wars. That might not normally be shocking, but given the success of Andor – which was particularly praised for the performances of the cast, among other things – it’s surprising that they didn’t get even a single nomination in those areas. But perhaps as a small consolation to Star Wars fans, Pedro Pascal (who plays Din Djarin in The Mandalorian) was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Joel Miller in HBO’s hit series The Last of Us.
Breaking it down, here’s what the categories were for each show that was nominated:
Andor (8): Outstanding Drama Series; Outstanding Cinematography for a Series (One Hour); Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series – “Rix Road”; Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score); Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music; Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series (One Hour); Outstanding Special Visual Effects in a Season or a Movie; Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series – “One Way Out”
Obi-Wan Kenobi (5): Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series; Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes; Outstanding Picture Editing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie; Outstanding Sound Editing for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special; Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie
