When the teaser trailer for Ahsoka was released at Star Wars Celebration, fans were treated to a look at Ahsoka Tano dueling what appeared to be an Inquisitor.
It has recently been confirmed that it is, indeed, an Inquisitor. In Empire Magazine’s coverage of the upcoming series, they released an exclusive image of the mysterious dark-sider in a dark, forested setting. The article didn’t reveal any further details beyond the image, but it’s nice to have it confirmed to be an Inquisitor.

It would appear that Ahsoka might face this particular Inquisitor a couple of different times, since in this image we see a dark forest world and in the trailer we see a bright industrial setting. This series will feature tons of lightsaber action, as this marks the fifth different lightsaber-wielder officially confirmed to be in the series, with Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, Baylan Skoll, Shin Hati, and this Inquisitor.
The biggest question, though, is who this Inquisitor is. As has been glimpsed in other shows like Rebels and Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Inquisitors were a group of dark side Force users who worked under the command of Darth Vader to hunt down and destroy the Jedi knights. Ahsoka Tano had run-ins with the Inquisitors on several occasions. In Tales of the Jedi she killed one, and she actually used the lightsaber crystal from a defeated Inquisitor to form her white blades. In Rebels, she faced off on multiple occasions against the Seventh Sister, the Fifth Brother, and the Eighth Brother. But by the time of the Civil War the Inquisitors weren’t heard from much, meaning that as the Jedi were mostly wiped out the Inquisitorious program had mostly ceased. Which of course makes it all the more interesting that in this series, set approximately five years following the Battle of Endor, an Inquisitor shows up.
It’s possible that part of the series could take place in flashback form, particularly since Ahsoka’s character is strongly connected with the World Between Worlds. So just because we see an Inquisitor show up here doesn’t mean that the Inquisitor is automatically active post-Endor… but assuming the timeline is the same, that’s extremely interesting. This Inquisitor bears similarities to the Eighth Brother, who presumably died in the Rebels season two finale, but it’s more probable it’s a new figure. Might it be someone familiar to both the audience and main character, like Barriss Offee? Or is this an entirely new character created to be a foe to Ahsoka?
We have no answers to that, and I’m sure we won’t until the series premieres. But it all does open up the interesting possibility that upon Thrawn’s return he could have some dark side Force users at his disposal, forming his own Inquisitorious of sorts. We know of this mysterious figure, as well as Baylon Skoll and Shin Hati, so even though Thrawn himself doesn’t use the Force or a lightsaber his forces we’ll see plenty of it nonetheless.
